The project focused on implementing the SDDP protocol so that a MediaTek 7688 gateway and all connected Zigbee devices could be discovered and published to a Control4 Director.
The original reference implementation was designed to broadcast a single device, while this project required a scalable way to handle multiple connected devices, each with its own configuration and behavior.
Cleverativity developed a service broker that launched a dedicated SDDP broadcasting process for every device connected to the gateway.
The broker collected the information required by each device, passed it to the corresponding broadcaster process, and ensured that both the MediaTek 7688 gateway and individual Zigbee devices could be announced correctly to Control4.
Control4 drivers were also implemented to interpret the information received through SDDP and configure their behavior according to the type of connected device.
The system was designed to support different Zigbee device types, including devices with different behaviors and configuration requirements.
New devices could be added by starting an additional SDDP broadcaster process, while system behavior remained configurable through text files. This created a flexible structure that could scale as more devices were connected to the gateway.
The result was a scalable discovery and integration layer that allowed the MediaTek 7688 gateway and its connected Zigbee devices to appear correctly within the Control4 environment.
The implementation supported automatic device discovery, device-specific broadcasts, configurable behavior, and easier expansion as new Zigbee devices were introduced.
