The project focused on creating a Control4 driver capable of automatically adjusting the brightness and white temperature of multiple Zigbee lighting devices throughout the day.
The lighting behavior needed to follow a dynamic circadian rhythm based on the local sunrise and sunset times, creating smoother transitions between daytime and nighttime conditions.
Cleverativity developed a connected lighting automation system combining Control4, MQTT, REST APIs, and Node.js.
A Node.js service was created to provide sunrise, noon, and sunset times for a given geographic location. The Control4 driver then used the GPS coordinates of the Control4 Director, passed them to the service, and calculated the appropriate brightness and white temperature at regular intervals.
The system then updated all associated lighting devices and gradually adjusted the environment throughout the day.
The project was designed around the concept of the circadian rhythm, using local daylight conditions to guide changes in artificial lighting.
The solution continuously adapted lighting levels and white temperature based on location and time of day, helping create a more natural transition between daylight and evening conditions.
The result was an automated smart-lighting system capable of controlling multiple Zigbee devices through a single Control4 integration.
By combining location-aware timing with gradual lighting adjustments, the system created a more responsive lighting environment that changed automatically throughout the day without requiring manual control.
